Who is Hotel Bruce?
|
Attended the Ohio State University and
received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature.
Lefkowitz has nine years of publishing experience
during which he served as editor of In
the Neighborhood news; staff writer
for the Cleveland Jewish
News; and associate editor for Inside
Business magazine. Lefkowitz received
Press Club of Cleveland awards for feature writing in 2000,
2001 and 2002. Currently, he is the Web Editor for EcoCity
Cleveland, and, recently he received his Master of Arts degree
in Urban Planning at Cleveland State University. He hopes
Hotel Bruce
will rise again as a journal and space for people to gather,
share ideas and create a community.
"The name evokes a place and time
when people from all walks of life maybe lived a little more,
walked and hopped trains a lot more, and visited with their
neighbors more. They found the necessities of life right in
their neighborhood. I would like to see more Clevelanders
reclaim some of those positive aspects of urban living." |

A painter and printmaker who has exhibited
her work locally at the Beck Center, Cleveland Environmental
Center, and Sylvia Ullman Gallery. Slawson spent four years
as an installation technician and curatorial assistant for
the Cleveland Museum of Art, and was Exhibition Development
Assistant at the Malrite Company in Cleveland, working on
the International Spy Museum. Slawson earned a Bachelor of
Fine Arts in painting and printmaking from Parsons School
of Design, and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts
at Kent State University. She returned to Cleveland because
she feels it is a city where she can have an influence on
the decreasing population of young people.
"The actual Hotel Bruce was one of
those places that you only find in really interesting urban
areas. I have always wanted to find out the history of abandoned
landmarks, and give them the importance of attention. That
feeling now stretches to the whole of this city. Cleveland
deserves some celebration of its history and people."

has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography,
and a Master of Arts degree in Arts Administration. Anderson
has served as gallery director at the Hiestand Galleries at
Miami University of Ohio, and assistant registrar and curatorial
assistant at the Cleveland Museum of Art. She is currently
Exhibition Development Associate at the Malrite Company in
Cleveland, working on the International Spy Museum and the
Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage.
"I see Hotel
Bruce not only as a journal, but
as a new, enlightened way of thinking. It's about rising above
the notion that our city is somehow second-class, and celebrating
the good, the inspirational, the quirky, and even the downright
odd aspects of the Forest City that make it an exciting and
vibrant place to call home." |

is a freelance writer with a background
in advertising and marketing. Published locally in Ursuline
College Magazine, Bistline attended Ohio University,
where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Creative
Writing. Prior to her work as a writer, she was a visual arts
teacher for Kids on Campus, a non-profit outreach program
for children ages 5-12. Bistline currently works for a local
marketing firm and serves as a writer and consultant for the
Serendipity Youth Theater—a non-profit outreach children’s
theater in Chicago.
"Cleveland has great potential as
a city, and I see Hotel Bruce
helping people to realize that. I’m thrilled to work
on a project that promotes rather than denigrates Cleveland."

is a graphic designer with an emphasis
in art history, painting and photography. Rini studied abroad
in Great Britain, and was the recipient of the Fox River Bravo
Award and the Charles Logan Smith Award for Excellence in
Design. Rini earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic
design from Ohio University, and also works as a graphic designer
at MOCA Cleveland and Cleveland Public Theater.
"I view Hotel
Bruce as a new place to explore
and truly experience Cleveland. To unearth the details of
our city, use them as a resource, and make people realize
that this is an inspiring place to live instead of planning
their ‘exciting life’ someplace else. I hope that
Hotel Bruce will foster the energy and the kind of thinking
that makes people proud to be here. Cleveland has everything—
just give it a moment to let it captivate you."
