How do you express your personal style?

Words: Lindsey Bistline
Photos: Amber Anderson

Is Ohio City our own Harajuku? The Tokyo district that’s home to punks and fashionistas is definitely more extreme, but there’s fashion lurking under the winter coats and scarves in Cleveland.

Are you a trendsetter? Does the very word “trend” make you want to throw up? Do you ignore trends and make up your own fashion, or is it classic all the way? Whatever your style, fashion is a way of expressing yourself to the world without uttering a single word. It’s something we engage in every day, whether we mean to or not. In true Fruits magazine fashion, HB went to Ohio City to see what fashion is brewing on the street.

Alec Stewart, 25
Shops at: Old Navy sales rack
Favorite fashion era: 1964
Fashion influence: Bob Dylan while he was still broke
What would you call your style? Shrug of the shoulders

Courie Weston, 26
Shops at: E-bay, Marshall’s, J-Crew
Favorite fashion era: 50’s, 60’s, 80’s, “I like 70s rock t-shirts.”
Fashion influence: none, avoids trends
What would you call your style? Mod-ish

Kristen Billings, 28
Shops at: GAP, Old Navy, BCBG, Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Suite Lorain, Flower Child
Favorite fashion era: Roaring 20s
Fashion influence: Old movies, the 50s. “I’m not influenced by current fashion. It’s too commercial, rigid.”
What would you call your style? Resists categories; “Kristen-style”

Be sure to check back every few weeks, because we'll be adding more Ohio City Fruits style profiles.
